3 Carnivore Mayonnaise Alternatives

If you’re eating carnivore or animal-based, traditional mayo is usually off-limits. Seed oils? Nope. Added sugars and preservatives? Definitely not. But that doesn’t mean you have to give up creamy condiments entirely.

These three easy carnivore mayo alternatives are made from real, animal based ingredients. They’re quick to whip up, packed with fat and flavor, and perfect for topping meat, dipping, or adding creaminess to your meals. None contain mustard but if you are comfortable consuming it that could be added to them for extra flavor.

1. Yogurt & Lemon Mayo

A tangy, refreshing option, great with fish, eggs, or beef patties. I’ve tried this and it is a great alternative with tuna but it is more runny than the 2nd option.

Ingredients:

  • ½ cup full-fat plain yogurt (grass-fed or homemade is ideal)
  • 1–2 tsp fresh lemon juice

Instructions:

  1. Stir the yogurt and lemon juice together in a bowl.
  2. Taste and adjust the lemon if you want more tang.
  3. Store in the fridge and use within a few days.

Tip: Use a thick or Greek yogurt if you want it thicker.

2. Sour Cream & Lemon Mayo

Richer and thicker than the yogurt version, this one’s perfect for dipping meats or topping air-fried chicken. I really like this recipe and don’t feel I’m missing out on the tangy creaminess of traditional mayonnaise.

Ingredients:

  • ½ cup full-fat sour cream
  • 1–2 tsp lemon juice

Instructions:

  1. Mix the sour cream and lemon juice until smooth.
  2. Chill before serving for the best texture.

Optional Add-In: A dash of salt or crumbled crispy bacon (yes please).

3. Butter & Bone Broth Mayo (No Raw Egg!)

I haven’t tried this one but was trying to find a suggestion for one that didn’t include raw eggs and ChatGPT suggested this. I could see how this could work as the gelled bone broth would replace the eggs but it might need mustard to cover the flavor of the bone broth. I might try this with gelatin as that would give a thickness but without a strong flavor while still including an ingredient which can be good for gut health.

Ingredients:

  • ¼ cup softened butter (not melted)
  • 2 tbsp cooled, gelled bone broth (from beef or chicken)
  • 1 tsp lemon juice or apple cider vinegar (optional, if tolerated)

Instructions:

  1. Let the butter come to room temp so it’s soft and blendable.
  2. Whisk or blend it with the gelled bone broth until smooth and creamy.
  3. Add a touch of lemon juice or ACV if you want a tangy kick.
  4. Chill for 10 minutes to thicken more, if desired.

Note: Make sure your bone broth gels when cold, this helps bind it all together!
