I like using my stainless steel pan as it’s easy to clean. Plus it seems to have even heat across the pan so all the burger cook pretty much at the same time without too much trouble. Adding fried bananas on the side might sound unusual, but their sweet flavor pairs really well with the savory burger.
How to Cook the Perfect Burger With Butter in a Stainless Steel Pan
Cooking a juicy, flavorful burger at home starts with picking the right meat and seasoning it well. For convenience you can use pre-made burgers. Then, heating your pan properly and using butter helps get that perfect sear. Finally, cooking the burger to the right temperature will keep it tender and tasty.
Choosing the Best Ground Beef for Juicy Burgers
I always look for ground beef with an 80/20 blend — that means 80% lean meat and 20% fat. This ratio gives burgers enough fat to stay juicy without being greasy. Ground chuck is a good choice because it usually has this fat content. If you prefer a leaner burger go for lower fat content mince.
Avoid super lean beef since it dries out quickly but I will share a tip on how to keep them moist if you do go for leaner mince.
Seasoning and Shaping Your Burger Patties
I keep seasoning simple, salt, pepper. If you are more flexi animal based you can add garlic powder, and onion powder or any herbs and spices you like.
For shaping, go for either bigger ones or small but adjust the cooking time. I press a small dimple in the center to stop the burger from puffing up too much during cooking. This helps keep a flat, even patty.
Prepping and Heating Your Stainless Steel Pan
Before cooking, I heat my stainless steel pan over medium-high heat. For me I’ve found the food doesn’t stick as much if I don’t get the pan too hot.
I add a very large knob of butter and let it melt.
Make sure the butter coats the whole pan for even heat distribution.
Searing and Cooking Burgers for the Perfect Doneness
Once the pan is hot and butter coated, I place the burger patties down, leaving space between them. I don’t press the patties with my spatula since that squeezes out juices.
Cook for a few minutes until browned and then turn and cook for a few more minutes until they are cooked through. During cooking this it what made a big difference between the burgers being dry and being moist. I used a spoon to spoon the butter over the burgers while they were cooking, I did this continuously while cooking them.
When flipping, use a thin, flexible spatula to gently lift the burger without breaking it. After cooking, I let the burgers rest a few minutes to keep juices inside, as I used plenty of butter to cook them I did pat them dry with kitchen roll so they weren’t too greasy.
In the same pan I fried the bananas, adding more butter before if needed.
Serving Suggestions, Ingredients List, Swaps, and Smart Tips
I find that having the right ingredients and simple steps makes cooking a buttered burger and fried bananas easy. You don’t need fancy tools, just a good stainless steel pan and fresh ingredients. A few smart swaps let you change the recipe based on what you have or want to eat.
Essential Ingredients for Burgers and Fried Bananas
For the burgers, I use high-quality beef or pre-done burgers that can sometimes be a bit lighter, just check the ingredients in case you are trying to avoid grains. You’ll need:
- Ground beef (80/20 fat ratio works best)
- Salt and pepper
- Butter (for the pan and burger topping)
For fried bananas:
- Ripe bananas (but not too soft)
- Butter
You can also top with any other animal based toppings like cheese, sour cream, cucumber.
Tips and Tricks for Full-On Flavor and Burger Success
- Don’t press the burger down when cooking; it squeezes out juices.
- Use a stainless steel pan over a non-stick if you want that perfect crust. Butter adds flavor and helps with browning, but watch it so it doesn’t burn too much.
- For fried bananas, make sure the butter is warm enough so the bananas don’t absorb too much.
- Finally, let the burgers rest for a few minutes before serving to keep them juicy.
